Disney Inspired: Maid Marian
Edit: This was meant for Tuesday night. For some reason, it didn't go up as scheduled, even though it was marked as 'scheduled'. Anyone know why this might be? The scheduling problem has officially gone from 'minor inconvenience' to 'major annoyance' in my books. xP
Happy Tuesday, everybody! This week, Robyn and I are doing another round of Disney Inspired Looks. This week, she's got Nala and I've got Maid Marian!

Catching Fire: In Which The Romantic Plot Tumor Eats The Rest of the Book
Okay, yeah, I'm doing this again. I just had to.
This is much longer than the last post, but I still couldn't touch half of the issues I came upon while reading. The TL;DR version of Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins is this:
In Part 1, we hear the story of how an Evil Empire gets in the way of a teenage love triangle. Which is unforgivable *shakes fist*. Spoiler: President Snow ships Peeta/Katniss. He's also either hacking up blood in his spare time or a vampire.
In Part 2, Katniss wears a cool outfit that looks like coal and is weirdly preoccupied with Johanna's breasts, which are mentioned no fewer than three times. In contrast, Finnick's crotch is only mentioned once.
In Part 3, we get the 75th Hunger Games. People die to save Katniss and Peeta. They really shouldn't. Also, Katniss comes out as pro child labor (1). Johanna hits Katniss upside the head and cements her title as my favorite character in the series.
Without further ado, here are a few of my problems with Book 2 in the Hunger Games trilogy.

Persona 4 Inspired: Kanji Tatsumi
I was planning on posting this series forever ago; right around when Persona 4: The Animation started putting out episodes, but I got really, really sidetracked. Persona 4 is probably the most upbeat murder mystery ever written; way more cheerful than the (also very good) Persona 3 and with a lot less in terms of suicidal imagery. And even though there's still a lot of really heavy stuff, and the game itself is hard, it's a really great play that I'd recommend to anyone who loves the JRPG or Urban Fantasy genres (and I recommend The Animation for those of you who don't game--just be wary that the homosexuality-related humor that's considered acceptable in Japan can come off as a bit homophobic to a social liberal in the US--episodes 6 and 8 are annoying as hell for that reason).
Speaking of episode 6...

Why I Don't Like The Hunger Games
Today, you're getting a Fierce Nerditude first, folks. Vijaya's doing a book critique.
Why? Well, the other day I posted on twitter about not liking the Hunger Games and I was asked by a reader named Cheree whether I might elaborate on the reasons why in blog post form. My answer? "Sure, why not."
Hope you like the post, Cheree. It's nice and long, just like you asked!
So let's start from the beginning; I tend to be very hype averse. I just feel that there is a very strong correlation between a book being popular YA literature and a book being really, really bad. I didn't think that the Hunger Games was going to be bad, though. A friend of mine convinced me that it was well-written, well-thought out and feminist. It's really not any of those things, in my own opinion.
Without further ado, I present to you a list of problems that I have with the Hunger Games.
These issues are arranged in ascending order from the smallest problems to the largest. This isn't a book review, it's a critique. It assumes that you've read it, but I've marked a spoiler for the benefit of the people who have not. It's also written from the perspective of someone who's read the first book but not the second.

Disney Inspired: Remy
Sorry to those of you who saw this post yesterday and may have looked back at it only to find that it was missing. I took it down temporarily because for some reason blogger turned all the photos sideways. I'm not even sure how that was possible, but seriously. I'm not happy with blogger, and I'm trying to find some other blog host. The obvious choice is wordpress, but if anyone has other suggestions, please do go ahead.
