Kat Von D True Romance Pigment: Ladyhawke

Those of you who've been reading my blog for a while will know I'm a pretty huge fan of the Kat Von D line of products. A few months ago at Sephora, I decided to pick up just one of the Kat Von D True Romance Pigments. Ladyhawke was the shade that jumped out at me immediately. Overall, though, this was one of those occasions where I wish I'd picked up a few more shades.

The Kat Von D True Romance Pigments are really lovely, smooth, easily blendable, well-pigmented, and you get a lot in a single jar. Just a single one contains 5 grams of product. If you take product weight into account these really aren't much more expensive than indie (though if you're like me and prefer cheaper minis, that won't matter much).

The KvD logo on the lid of the jar
The packaging from the Kat Von D line is always lovely to look at, in my opinion. I love the roses, the logo, the jar itself... everything really! This is a really nice, sleek sifter jar. The pigment is smooth and comes out of the sifter with ease.

For those of you mineral makeup fans, these pigments' formulations are mica based, though the ingredients list doesn't quite read the same as (most) indie mineral brands' lists. The list of ingredients, as written on Sephora's site:

Mica, Isostearyl Neopentanoate, Dimethicone, Lauroyl Lysine, Zinc Stearate, GlycerylCaprylate, Hydrogenated Lecithin, Trimyristin, Silica, Potassium Sorbate, Phenoxyethanol, Calcium, Sodium Borosilicate. [+/-]: Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499), Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Carmine (CI 75470), Ferric Ferrocyanide (CI 77510), Chromium Oxide Greens (CI 77288).

Some of these are non-lip safe and non-vegan. I'm not sure about this shade (I think the ingredients list was on the shrinkwrap, but I threw that out a long time ago). For those who are unfamiliar the ingredients after the [+/-] part of the list may or may not be in the shades depending on the color (I was confused about it at first, so I thought I'd share that piece of information).

The pigmentation leaves nothing to be desired, at least in my opinion.

Left to Right: Ladyhawke applied wet, dry and patted on
I used very little product for each of these swatches.

Ladyhawke is a red-toned, slightly browned, metallic plum.

The Good:
  • Stellar pigmentation. I really like the shade range as well, though I wish it were larger!
  • Lovely packaging.
  • Lots of product in a single jar.
The Bad:
I'm struggling to think of something. Check under neutral.

The Neutral:
  • I, personally, feel like I'd rather have a smaller jar for cheaper. That way, I could pick up more shades at once.
Overall,  I highly recommend both this formulation and this shade. The pigmentation, shade, packaging are totally my taste. I've been really happy with my experiences with the Kat Von D line, and I will be picking up more shades soon. I'm thinking all of them. I wish they would expand the color selection, though!

These are currently available from Sephora for $16.00.
